Your Wife Must Be Really Good Looking

When we were living in Sydney, I used to go to Chatswood a lot. Chatswood is a suburb of Sydney that has a major train station, 2 Western malls, 1 smaller mostly Asian mall, several Asian grocery stores, and countless Asian restaurants. There was a tremendous variety all within a 10 minute walk of the train station.

One day I was shopping at Jusco, which is a very nice Asian grocery store in the Westfield Mall/Arcade. My then toddler was speaking a word or 2 of Mandarin at a time to me. An old Chinese woman hears us and walks over to talk to me.

Woman: "Is your wife Chinese?"
Me: "Taiwanese"

She then looked at my son very carefully, like she was trying to memorize his face, looked at me, back to my son, then back to me. She then said very slowly

Woman: "Your wife must be very good looking"
Me: "Thank You" as she walked away.

A few seconds later I thought "Hey, wait a minute. I think she's saying I'm not even close to being good looking"
