I don't make lists of meats, seafood, or produce when I go food shopping. Instead I simply write fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, etc as a reminder to pick something up. Why do I do this? Well there are a few reasons. I don't want to create a menu go out to the store and discover the fresh food is very expensive that week, or doesn't look fresh. Instead I like to look around, see what looks fresh and reasonably priced, and feel inspired. I let the creative juices flow.
For instance I was walking through the butcher section of my local supermarket when I heard a little voice. I looked down and saw a pack of pork chops on sale for half price and they were saying "Owshawng, eat me." So that's what I did. Of course I bought and cooked them first.
I dipped then in egg yolk, then dredged then in flour, paprika, salt and pepper, then deep fried them in my dutch oven, turning once. They were cooked until they were golden brown. I served it with noodles in sesame oil, corn, and some pickled Taiwanese vegetables. Usually the best meals find me ,not the other way around.

Whoa! I wish it were that easy for me! Even with the myriad of recipes available (just a few keystrokes away via a search engine).
When hunger pangs (or mealtimes) come...I usually get a mental block on what dish would strike my fancy.
