EAST is located at 48 Springfield Ave.,Berkeley Heights, NJ. I've only been here twice, but a few more visits and EAST may be joining my list of favorite New Jersey restaurants. EAST has great food. It's fresh, light, and delicious.
I started my meal with an Eel and Avocado roll (above) and had Wok Glazed Duck as my main course (top). The Eel and Avocado roll was beautiful. Light, fresh and served on a plate garnished with ginger, wasabi, and hot chili sauce. Over the last couple of years I've developed a strong appreciation for duck. When duck is cooked correctly it's fantastic, This glazed duck dish was a winner. The dish consisted mainly of duck, rope bean, red pepper, shitake mushrooms, spanish onions, ginger and was dressed with balsamic vinaigrette . It looked beautiful and tasted even better. It was elegant, clean, refreshing. I could go on and on about its qualities. It was served with both white and brown rice.
My wife ordered sweet potato roll and a spider roll (above). Both were delicious and the plate was garnished with chili sauce, ginger, and wasabi. The spider roll was made of soft shell crab, cucumber, avocado, and caviar. The sweet potato roll was slightly fried sweet potato. Simple, basic, elegant, and delicious. This is how food should look and taste.
